Kisumu & Lake Victoria

Kenya's lakeside city sits on Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, with a layered railway and port history. Just west stands Kit Mikayi, a 120m rock formation sacred to the Luo and listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

Best time to visit

June to October is driest and best for boat trips. Kit Mikayi and the museum are open all year.
